LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER

mail print

This gotoreport introduction was written on the way home from an insightful trip to the Scandanavia and Southern Germany. In 2005, gotomedia has truly gone global. Cross-cultural research and design has been part of gotomedia's long-term vision since the inception of the company. This year, we have actively engaged in usability and ethnographic-based studies for the design of new products and services on an international level, working with clients based in Japan, Italy, France and Finland to name a few. The Danish culture is fascinating, touting famous designers such as Arne Jacobson, writer and artist Hans Christian Anderson (this is his 200th birthday celebration) and of course, our adopted guru, Jacob Nielson. Out of any country I have visited, this culture understands and embraces the concept of usability testing and combined testing methods. Which brings us to the contents of the current gotoreport. Columnist Dave Rogers provides a step-by-step look at creating PDF prototypes and using them in usability testing. Steven Spencer takes a look at search engine placement and provides tips on how to compete effectively with your competitors. Finally, Subha Subramanian, our User Experience Specialist explains how to measure ROI on usability testing.

Since the last report went out, the new edition of Web Redesign 2.0: Workflow that Works has been released. It is still as handy and relevant as ever so if you have not yet given it a look - check it out.

As always, we welcome your feedback!
